Rwandan Stevia revenues to raise by 18.5% by 2024

Rwanda was featured on CNN Market Place Africa news as one of the three top countries in Africa that have adopted Stevia farming as a strategy to diversify her agri-exports.

On the limelight was Mr. Bruce Irambona of Stevialife Sweetness investments Ltd from Rulindo District (Northern Province) and Jean Marie Vianney Munyaneza from NAEB.

Other countries cultivating the crop in Africa are Kenya and Zambia. Rwanda exports’ value from Stevia amounts to half a million US dollars per year. These revenues are expected to grow at 18.5% per year to reach 1.2 billion US dollars per year by 2024. A kilogram of Stevia dry leaves is sold at $US 2.5-3.00.

Stevia from Rwanda ends up in the China market, a country which own over 95% of the distillation facilities in the world.
